Being typically Asian, I’ve never seen my parents celebrate their wedding anniversary, but here’s a sweet little story about a Chinese couple celebrating theirs.
An old couple from Singapore recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary with their relatives at Sentosa island. Knowing the couple’s inclination towards rejecting the grand idea, their 23-year-old granddaughter planned the surprise celebration secretly.
“My parents are always really low-profile, and they rarely celebrated their wedding anniversaries, that’s why we wanted to have a grand celebration this time.”
The couple’s granddaughter took the couple to Sentosa to spend time and do some shopping, while completely hiding the surprise from the couple. They were caught off guard when the granddaughter led them into a hall with beautiful and romantic decorations, and twenty relatives invited to witness the event.
What’s cuter was that a wedding gown and suit were prepared for them to wear, and they marched down the aisle hand-in-hand. The guests beamed as they watched the old couple exchange vows in their “new” wedding ceremony.
According to China Press, the 80-year-old husband and 74-year-old wife got married on 6 September 1965, and they’ve walked on the loving path for the past 54 years. The wife was introduced to her husband through her elder brother, and they tied the knot after two years of courtship.
Touched by the loving couple’s faith in their relationship, we are once again convinced that love does exist and it’s definitely worth celebrating for.
