“Pretty privilege” can lead certain people to get more popularity, higher grades, more positive work reviews and career advancement. However, it can also lead to some people being seen to be as more innocent than they should be.
Recently, a news headlines from back in 2018 went viral on TikTok after a user had shared it and called the accused “handsome”.
The news report was about Lim Fong Aun who was accused of killing his wife T Santhi by hitting her on the head with a clothes drying rack at their home in Penang on 18 November 2018.
Some users tried to defend his action
Many users found the man to be handsome and some even tried to justify and defend his act of killing his wife.
One user commented, “I pity him. Looks like a nice guy… we don’t know what could’ve happened between the two… only Allah knows.”
“If a husband kills his own wise, it doesn’t mean that the husband is 100% in the wrong. Maybe the wife always made him feel inferior and did not respect him,” said another user.
The issue was brought to Twitter
The video which had been viewed over 262,600 times found its way to Twitter where users criticised those who tried to justify the man’s act of killing his wife.

Some users questioned how the man could even be regarded as handsome, whilst others pointed out the “pretty privilege”.
One user likened it to the case of the infamous Ted Bundy. “This is like the American serial killer. Because he is handsome people think it’s fine, he even has a fan club.”
“Is there a need to say that he is handsome? A killer is still in the wrong even if he looks like Mr Universe,” said another.
