A Singapore-based actor said he saved 30% in living costs after relocating to Malaysia.
According to Lianhe Zao Bao, the actor Shaun Chen sold his house in Johor Bahru before moving to Singapore—a decision he regrets to this day. Shaun has been residing in Eco Botanic township with his wife and two daughters since August 1.
Shaun is originally from Negeri Sembilan and holds a Singapore Permanent Resident (PR) status.
“My family’s living expenses have been reduced by about 30 percent. It only take me about 30 minutes to travel from the Tuas Causeway to my house.”
As for his future acting career, Shaun revealed that nothing much will change.
“My acting career will not change much in the future. If there is a drama, I will go to Singapore to shoot, and travel between Singapore and Malaysia. I drive back and forth. The traffic is usually smooth except on holidays.”
Shaun added that MediaCorp is currently cultivating new talents, so there will be fewer opportunities for actors like him, who were once newcomers too.
“This is a transitional period, and I still look forward to more and better roles from MediaCorp.”
As for her daughter’s school fees, who is studying in an international school, Shaun said the fees show no big difference.
“The tuition fees for permanent residents studying in Singapore are not cheap either, and they also have to pay for after-school care, which is actually about the same as the tuition fees for international schools here.”
