The husband of the suspect in the fatal crash in Terengganu, which killed 3 UiTM Dungun students on the way to their campus today issued an apology to the victims’ families for the tragedy that had transpired.
Speaking to Harian Metro, the man, 53-year-old Azhar Ahmad, said that he cried and was dejected witnessing the scene of the accident and revealed the mental health issues faced by his wife.
The suspect’s husband seeks forgiveness from the victims’ families on behalf of his wife
Azhar added that since the fatal crash, he wanted to personally meet the victims’ families to apologise but postponed doing so after being advised to do so by the authorities.
He asserted,
“I cried and was really saddened when witnessing the crash. On behalf of my wife, I seek forgiveness from head to toe to all the family members of the victims.”
Azhar further shared that he rushed to the scene with his youngest child after a friend had contacted him about the crash.
He said that he was shocked to see the bodies of the students on the road and tried to search for their family members, but they were all not residing in Dungun.
Afterwards, he was instructed by the police to go to the police station to record his statement.
Azhar asserted that he regrets the incident and had hidden the car keys from his wife before the fatal crash.
He asserted,
“No one wants this incident to happen. I’ve already hidden the car keys, but the incident still happened.”
The suspect has been suffering from mental health issues since undergoing an abortion 10 years ago
Regarding his wife, Azhar said that she has been suffering from mental health issues since 10 years ago when she had to undergo an abortion for what would’ve been their 4th child together.
He shared that when his wife sought treatment at a hospital in Kuala Terengganu, she went into a coma for 4 days and lost a lot of blood. Since waking up from the coma, she began experiencing mental health issues and started always hallucinating and talking to herself.
Azhar said,
“I’ve brought her to countless treatments, even through traditional methods. Everything I did for her didn’t have an effect.”
