People these days are getting more and more creative and this creativity seems to be spilling over into food.
Now, we’ve seen our share of terrible food combos that we have no idea if they work such as durian ramen but recently, we’ve chanced upon a food that is not in its usual shape.
We would expect chicken rice to be in a rectangular container with chicken on top of a bed of rice and in this case, the chicken placed on top of rice but on a much smaller scale, just like sushi.
On 24 July, a Xiao Hong Shu user from Guangzhou shared a dish they found in their local restaurant and it turned out to be a Hainanese chicken rice sushi.
You might be wondering how that works and according to the caption, the vinegared rice is replaced with chicken oil-flavoured rice, the raw fish with slices of chicken and the skin attached and the wasabi with a small dollop of ginger and spring onion sauce.
The netizen believes that this is a more “deconstructed” version of the normal chicken rice and they paid 19.9 yuan (RM12.67) for 3 pieces of it.
It seems that the Xiao Hong Shu user found it very good and said that it was “suitable for the Chinese stomach.”
However, some netizens believe that the ratio of rice, chicken and sauce is out.
“The ratio of rice, chicken and chicken skin is too unbalanced.” We think so too!
Well, it definitely seems very expensive for just 3 pieces of “sushi” that will not even make up a bowl of chicken rice but if it tastes phenomenal, it might be worth it. What do you think? Would you pay that amount of money to try it?
