Newly appointed Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli has promised that he will not be mixing up his ministerial duties with his role as PKR deputy president, pledging that he will be using his time as a Cabinet member the best he can.

Furthermore, Rafizi also assured that he will still be taking on criticism and political games from the opposition only outside of office hours.

In a Facebook post, the Economy Minister asserted that he is well aware that the social media war is still heated up with political dramas, but stressed that the government’s main responsibility now is to improve the people’s quality of life.

Saya faham perang media sosial masih panas – mainan politik PN/PAS terus berlaku.Tetapi tanggungjawab utama kerajaan…

Rafizi said the government’s priority now is to focus on policies and implementation of projects that can create an impact to help the people prepare for the economic challenges of 2023 which are expected to further test the country’s economic resilience.

He said, “We are paid by the people to work for the nation and we cannot use our working time to carry out our political duties.”

“Campaigning is to be conducted in our own time such as at night or during weekends so that there is no clash of responsibilities as a minister and my role in the party. It is time for us to change the political culture.”

Rafizi, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Pandan, said that he would only take on Perikatan Nasional (PN) and answer their political issues outside of his working hours as Economy Minister.

During such times, he would also be coordinating the role of activists and the leaders of the Unity Government in monitoring the performance of PN as the opposition.

Besides that, Rafizi also pledged to not use a single cent of the government’s money and time in campaigning for his party or coalition.

The political landscape is bound to get further heated up next year as several states would be holding their respective State Elections, including Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.

What do you think of Rafizi’s pledge? Do you agree?
