Heun Kee Claypot Chicken Rice in Pudu, Kuala Lumpur, famous for its charcoal-cooked claypot chicken rice, has officially closed its doors for good.
The legendary restaurant announced the closure on its Facebook page, thanking customers for their long-time support and stating it was an honour to have served them over the years.

Michelin Bib Gourmand-recognised Heun Kee Claypot Chicken Rice has permanently closed
Though the Pudu location is now a part of history, fans can still head to their other outlet and continue enjoying their signature claypot chicken rice and other dishes at Heun Kee Claypot Chicken Rice in Taman Connaught, Cheras.
“We’re deeply thankful for all the support, memories, and loyalty you’ve shown us over the years at our Pudu outlet. It’s truly been an honour serving you,” the post read.

According to the Michelin Guide, the restaurant traces its roots back to 1985, when founder Madam Heun May Lan took over a stall simply to make ends meet.
In 2001, Heun found a vacant shop lot that later became the restaurant’s current home and named it Heun Kee. Over the years, the eatery has gone on to earn Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition.
“Keeping our food quality consistent is what matters most”
Bryan Yun, her grandson and a third-generation family member, stepped in to carry on the family legacy, starting at the shop and eventually taking over the business in his late twenties.
He has often attributed the restaurant’s success to his grandmother’s steadfast advice:
“My grandmother always tells me that the taste should stay the same as it was from day one. There are no shortcuts. Keeping our food quality consistent and taking care of our customers is what matters most.”
