Taiwanese influencer, Iris Hsieh, died in a hotel room in Kuala Lumpur on 22 October, and according to his manager and friend, Chris, the hospital ruled “heart attack” as her cause of death.

Following further investigations, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) provided a major update regarding the case this morning (4 November).

The case, which was previously classified as a sudden death (SDR), is now being investigated for murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Hj. Marsus confirmed the matter, but did not mention whether the police are going to arrest Namewee again to assist with the investigation.

The local singer, who was at the scene where Iris passed away, was arrested after PDRM found drugs on him, which were suspected to be ecstasy. He also tested positive for four illegal substances.

Namewee pleaded not guilty to two charges in court on 24 October and was released on RM8,000 bail, and the matter has been set for trial on 18 December.

In his statement, Namewee insisted that he had never taken drugs but admitted to having drunk a lot of alcohol. He also testified that he was in the room with Iris to discuss work matters before the latter went for a shower.

Iris was later found unresponsive in the bathtub, and Namewee claimed to have performed CPR on her, but to no avail.

He also claimed that the ambulance took an hour to reach the scene, but an official from the Ministry of Health confirmed that an ambulance was dispatched to the scene two minutes after the call, and reached the hotel in 26 minutes.

If found guilty of drug possession and abuse, Namewee may face up to five years in jail and caning. Stay tuned to WORLD OF BUZZ as we keep you updated.
