The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dato’ Seri Panglima AcrylSani bin Haji Abdullah Sani has clarified that the luxurious cars brandished with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) logo are just for testing and not being purchased for official use for now. This is following images of five luxurious BMW and Volkswagen cars with the PDRM insignia have gone viral online which piqued the interest of Malaysians who question the purpose behind them.

As reported by Malaysiakini, the IGP in a statement yesterday (8 October 2021) said that the luxurious cars were received on 7 October for testing or ‘proof of concept’ without any purchase agreement. The testing period will last for two weeks and will involve these specific vehicles:

  • BMW M3
  • BMW X3
  • Volkswagen Tiguan

The IGP further clarified that the vehicles will be tested by the internal security and public order department, the traffic investigation and enforcement department and the police escort branch. Acryl Sani further commented,

“The purpose of this test is to see if these vehicles are suitable for police duties, or not,”

Furthermore, the IGP also stressed that PDRM is well aware of the financial constraints faced by the government due to the Covid-19 pandemic and said that the police are yet to decide whether the luxurious vehicles were needed.

What do you guys think of the IGP’s clarification? Do you think the luxurious vehicles are required by PDRM for the specific duties that they are testing them for? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
