Tan Sri Dr Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, a renown lawyer who represented Najib in his various trials, including the infamous SRC International and 1MDB cases has offered to represent Sam Ke Ting, the accused in the infamous Basikal Lajak case in the trial. Furthermore, he is offering his services pro bono, or for free.

As reported by The Star, Shafee said that he feels strongly that Sam needs to be defended. He also hoped that her appeal to the Appellate Court can be heard immediately.

Shafee asserted,

“I am offering to help this lady pro bono because I feel strongly that she needs to be defended. I also feel that her appeal to the Court of Appeal needs to be heard expeditiously… Bail must be given immediately,”

The well-respected lawyer opined that Sam should be given leave to appeal and pending the appeal, she must be granted a stay of conviction and sentence. The accused in the Basikal Lajak is currently serving her sentence for reckless driving which caused the deaths of eight teenagers on 18 February 2017. If given the stay of conviction, she would be allowed to go out on bail until after the case is heard in the Court of Appeal.

Shafee, who is also the vice-president of Persatuan Alumni Rumpun Fakulti Undang-Undang Universiti Malaysa further hoped to be able to deliver a message about justice. He stressed that it has nothing to do about the race or religion of Sam and the eight deceased teenagers.

What do you guys think of Shafee’s offer for Sam Ke Ting? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
