If you could be any fictional or real-life character for a day, which one would you be? You have a whole gallery of superheroes and villains to choose from but a local actress, Fasha Sandha chose to be Maleficent, a fairy-queen character made famous by Angelina Jolie in recent years.
In her Instagram post yesterday (November 13), Fasha shared a series of pictures of her family members in various characters during the “costume and character” day at an event, which is known as “Kejirananku Bukan Kejirananmu“. The children were all dressed in their matching characters and Fasha dubbed the dress-up “just for fun“.
However, some Malaysians may not see the activity as something fun. Fasha’s choices of the wardrobe of the day, especially, received criticism from Malaysians as her appearance as Maleficent was seen as an “imitation of the devil“.
Many Malaysians in the comment sections assumed that the local actress wore the costume for Halloween, although the celebration ended about 2 weeks ago.
“Haram is still Haram. We can’t celebrate it.”
“Don’t you feel anything when imitating the devil with horns? I’m just asking.”
“Even if it’s not Halloween, why would you dress up as the Devil, who is the enemy of the human race? What’s so fun about it?”
“It may not be fun at all at the end of the day. My apologies, we call you out because we care. If you cannot accept criticism, then it’s alright.”
“Don’t follow the Western culture. Don’t normalise it.”
“It’s not good to celebrate Halloween. But the kids look adorable in their costumes.”
In her post, Fasha did not specify if the dress-up was specifically for a Halloween celebration, although she did mention that everything was “just for fun” and the dress-up was merely for an event. The date of the event was also not disclosed. You can check out the images below.
Do you think Fasha’s outfit was too much and resembles the devil, despite the character being an evil fairy?
