So, for those of you who don’t know (though, we doubt you don’t know about this issue), KK Mart recently came under fire for selling socks with the word ‘Allah’ displayed on it, raising concerns over religious sensitivities and causing a boycott over their stores.
Since then, the authorities from the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) have also launched an investigation into the vendor of the socks and their factory.
The Penang Kini Facebook page recently showcase the temporary closure of the factory, located in Batu Pahat, Johor, where a banner has been hung outside their gate in an effort to apologise to Malaysians in regards to the matter of the socks.
Penang Kini wrote, “The factory that distributed the ‘Allah’ socks closes it’s doors. A ‘sorry’ banner has been placed at the entrance.”
An apology to the Malaysian people.
Taking to the banner, the supplier apologised in regards to the socks while sharing that it wasn’t their intention to stir up sensitivities.
“We promise that we are always committed to ensuring the sensitivities of the multiracial community are always protected, to ensuring that harmony is preserved and to increase the effort of our quality control. We once again apologise to the people,” they added.
The vendor also shared that they will be looking into taking legal action against their supplier in China, who allegedly admitted into including the problematic socks into their purchase by mistake.
