Have you ever imagined what it’s like to be blind? While it’s definitely easier for a visually impaired person to navigate their world compared to us closing our eyes and trying to carry out our usual daily activities, the world is still not exactly the most friendly place for visually impaired people.

This is shown by a TikTok video of a blind man that has recently gone viral. In Nadiatul Farhana’s (Nadiatul_Farhana) video, her husband, who is blind, can be first seen walking along a tactile pavement on Jalan Sultan Ismail with the help of his white cane.
He was navigating just fine until he reached a part of the tactile pavement which was blocked by a row of five Beam scooters. As his cane did not detect the scooters in time, Nadiatul’s husband walked directly into the scooters and almost tripped on them.

Although the scooters fell, he managed to walk over them and luckily, did not fall.
“Obstacles on the tactile pavement endanger those with visual impairments,” the video reads, reminding everyone to steer clear of tactile pavements.

Low public awareness
In the comments section of the video, netizens thanked Nadiatul for sharing the video as many people are still unaware of the function of tactile pavements.
“This is so dangerous. Many are still unaware about this tactile pavement.”

Beam to take action
Additionally, Beam Mobility Malaysia has asked Nadiatul for the exact location of the beam scooters blocking the tactile pavement so that they can action as soon as possible.
“We’ll definitely share this with the team so that amenities like these don’t get obstructed. Once again, thank you for bringing this to our attention,” the brand said in a comment under the video.
