It’s no secret that food prices have gone up over the past year or so, but some places have raised their prices to the extremes.

Can you imagine paying RM20 for a plate of fried rice just for the sake of a couple of prawns?

A Malaysian, a netizen took to Xiao Hong Shu, to share her frustration of having to pay RM40 for 2 plates of fried rice at a hawker center in Yulek, Cheras.

She wrote, “This is the first time I have eaten such an expensive fried rice at a kopitiam. What a toothache, these 2 ordinary shrimp fried rice with only 6 shrimps costs RM40??”

Being completely taken aback by the price, she reconfirmed the price with the hawker stall owner

“At that moment, I reconfirmed the price with the boss. He told us that the shrimp is very expensive and (what makes it worse is) it doesn’t even taste good.”

“It is the first time I have bought such outrageous fried rice. I feel like we were scammed. Especially when my friend and I first arrived at the restaurant, they kept asking us where we are from, it feels like they were thinking of scamming us young people,” she added.

She has since warned others to be wary of being scammed by ridiculously expensive prices.

K️opitiams and hawker centers are often preferred by Malaysians as they are supposed to be more affordable. Well, not anymore, we guess.
