Malaysians love open houses for one thing, and one thing only, the free food!
But, just because we have access to free food doesn’t mean we should take advantage of it and take more than we’re actually going to eat.
A Malaysian took to the Penang Kini Facebook page to share the pain they felt upon witnessing open house guests wasting satays after taking more than they can eat.
They wrote, “I’ve gone to multiple open houses and if they have satays, there is always people who take a lot on their plate, pour the peanut sauce on and in the end, they don’t finish it. After that they’ll head off, leaving the satay on the table.”
Seeing the leftover satays on the table, the homeowner will have no other choice but to throw it away as the leftover food could be unhygienic for others to eat.
“I am confident that no on else will eat the food as other guests will not be okay with eating other people’s leftovers. The home owners will then be forced to throw it away. It’s sad knowing you have to throw away food meant to be served to guest. Sometimes, it can be heartbreaking,” they added.
They have since urged open house goers to be more mindful of the portions they take, to prevent food waste.
“Can we as guests stop wasting food like this? Please realise that the more we throw away blessings, the smaller our door to blessing will get. It will be to a point where maybe it’ll be closed completely.”
“When it reaches to that level, it will not be impossible that we will be willing to dumpster dive, hoping that there will be blessings for us there. So, don’t be greedy, take mindfully and if it is not enough, you can take again,” they explained.
Just as the netizen shared, it is not embarrassing to go for a second round of food should you not feel full. It should be more embarrassing to waste food after taking more than you need.
