December is always something to remember for the festive season – Christmas and New Year! In conjunction with the festive season, Secret Santa events are often held in the workplace or at gatherings with friends to exchange gifts.

The gifts usually come with a budget that suits everyone’s preferences and despite having a figure that everyone has agreed upon, it’s safe to say that we shouldn’t have any expectations. According to a TikTok post by @banubino, she shared a recent experience of her friend who received a gift from his Secret Santa who spent below the minimum budget of RM40.

According to @banubino, her friend’s expectations were already low but what he got was still shocking. He got a towel from his Secret Santa.

“He wasn’t disappointed. He was just a little bit sad because he got a towel.”

It wasn’t easy to check the price of the items as the brand was imprinted on the towel. He tried looking up the price online and found out that the towel cost the Secret Santa RM30.

“At least hide it better”

The woman herself was baffled at the gift and the price because it did not even reach the minimum requirement of the RM40 budget. To her, there is a lot that we can buy for RM40.

“You can get a pouch, t-shirts, notebook, etc.”

While it has never been confirmed, she guessed that it wasn’t even something the Secret Santa purchased for the event, but merely something he has had for a while, and decided to use as a gift.

“I’m sorry, it sounds bad but that’s what it looks like.”

She also assured that her friend understands that not everyone may have enough money but the RM40 minimum budget was agreed by everyone.

She then reminded others NOT to have high expectations when it comes to Secret Santa events in the office. By the end of the video, she had another friendly reminder to the Secret Santas out there.

“If you want to give something that’s below the minimum budget, at least hide it better.”

As a disclaimer, he said he knows not everyone has money but everyone agreed on the min 40 ringgit price so it was just weirdly sad for him haha
