During a job interview, it’s not only important to maintain a good first impression but also to enquire as many details as possible about the job you’re hunting.
Recently, a screenshot of the conversation between a Malaysian and her possible employer has gone viral on social media. While the job is not specified, the screenshot made it clear that wrapping packages is part of the job description.
The unnamed person was initially accepted and the employer had given the starting date.
However, she was fired just one day before her work started.
It all started when she texted her employer to ask if she was required to keep standing whilst wrapping the packages.
‘Yes, you have to. But it’s alright, I don’t think you’re meant for this job. You don’t have to come tomorrow,’ the employer replied.
In response to that, the woman simply said ‘alright, thank you.’
We certainly did not see that coming.
The screenshot has garnered the attention of fellow Malaysians where most of them said the woman actually dodged a bullet by not working for an employer with such an attitude.
‘That’s a childish boss. This is the kind of boss that will usually ignore the welfare of his employees.’
‘Looks to me like an employer who is likely to exploit you. You dodged a bullet.’
‘It’s not a loss to not work for this employer.’
‘You saved yourself. It’s not a loss.’
‘I’d rather not work for an employer like this.’
‘The employer would’ve accepted her if she asked about wrapping packages whilst lying down.’
Do you think the employer’s response was a red flag, or do you think the question posed was inappropriate?
