A Malaysian allegedly got fired from their job after refusing to cancel the vacation they had planned and gotten approval for a month in advance.
Netizen, 打工小智, took to their XiaoHongShu account to recall how their friend was fired for insubordination after deciding to move forward with their pre-approved vacation time when their employer requested that they cancel it and go to work.

“Yesterday, while playing basketball, I heard my friend say that they had planned a trip last month and asked for a week’s leave from their company, a month in advance. The company approved it, and so they planned their trip.”
However, as their holiday approached, their employer reached out to ask them to cancel their trip and come to work, stating that they “had something urgent to deal with“.
“They were stunned. Everything was already arranged, plane tickets were purchased, and the employer suddenly called and asked them to cancel everything!”
When the employee explained that they had already made all the arrangements for their trip and that they couldn’t just cancel everything at the last minute, the employer questioned their priorities and threatened them with a firing.
“What’s more important now, work or fun? If you don’t come back (to the office), you won’t have to come back later!” the employer allegedly threatened.
The employee went on their trip anyway and got fired
Considering that the arrangements have been made and believing that whatever issues waiting at the office were the employer’s fault for not managing without them, the employee went ahead with their holiday.

“They thought to themselves, ‘What’s the big deal with having some fun? This is clearly (the employer’s) problem. I’ve already prepared everything I need to. (The employer’s) Inability to arrange things properly is their own fault. Why should I cancel my vacation?’
“They ignored their employer and went on their trip anyway, thinking it was just another trivial matter,” 打工小智 explained.
The employee returned from their vacation to find that human resources (HR) had sent them a termination letter citing that they had “disobeyed their superiors during work“.
打工小智 ended their post by questioning the employer’s decision to fire their friend while asking why employees don’t deserve basic rest.
