A Malaysian couple from Penang went missing after going to Bangkok earlier this month and at the time of writing (September 30), the pair’s whereabouts remain unknown.

A family member of the man, known as Goh, shared a missing person notice via her Facebook post and said Goh last spoke to his family on September 8 when he was allegedly in Bangkok.

Goh, 21, flew to Bangkok with his girlfriend, Yumi, who is 23 this year. And here’s the story of the disappearance from both sides.

“Driver job in the UK”

In the viral Facebook post, Goh, who had just returned home from Genting said that his boss introduced him to a new job opportunity in the United Kingdom (UK). With that, Goh was scheduled to board a flight to the UK on September 4, with a layover in Bangkok.

Goh was still in touch with his family until September 8.

“He responded to his mum’s text about bringing thick clothing to the UK,” his cousin remarked on the post.

The nature of the job in the UK, as told by Goh is to work as a driver. However, not much else was shared about the job.

“Goh doesn’t like sharing details and he dislikes when others ask too much. His mum is not aware of his social circle, and she didn’t even know Goh has a girlfriend.”

A police report has been lodged but at the moment, there have been no updates from the police.

“I just need to know you’re safe”

On the other hand, a report by Sin Chew revealed that Yumi, Goh’s girlfriend, did not tell her mother about going to the UK.

Similarly, Yumi’s mother was told that her daughter boarded a flight on September 4 to Bangkok, and has not heard from Yumi since then.

However, according to the mother, Yumi had allegedly contacted a close friend and informed her that she lost her luggage and important documents in Spain. The close friend, who last spoke to Yumi on WeChat on September 7, claimed that Yumi’s boyfriend, Goh, also experienced the same fate.

“Her friend told me that they might be stuck in Spain for a month or two.”

Yumi also shared pictures of her boyfriend and her in Bangkok having dinner and strolling around at the airport. However, both their faces were not seen in the pictures, which were shared with Yumi’s close friend.

Yumi’s mother, on the other hand, just wants to know if her daughter is safe, regardless of where she is. A police report has also been lodged.

We truly hope both parties are safe and if things take a sour turn, we hope they can reunite with their respective families sooner, rather than later.
