Comic book and manga enthusiasts, this is going to hurt you, A LOT.
A man in Taiwan, who is in his 20s, found out that ALL 32 of his Attack On Titan comic books disappeared into thin air. It was later revealed that it was his mother who disposed of his comic book collection without asking him.
The son was so upset that he decided to take legal action against his mother and sued her for throwing away his mangas!
According to TTV News, the District Court fined the woman NTD5,000 (approximately RM663) for damaging other people’s belongings, but that’s not all.
She also has to go through 5 days of hard labour, which she can appeal. The judge believed that the mother’s discarding and destruction of her son’s comic books was an “unlawful infringement on family members” in the “Domestic Violence Prevention Law”.
A little too harsh to treat a mother this way? We’ll leave that to you to decide.
“I thought they were garbage”
The mother also admitted that she thought the pile of mangas left on the staircase was garbage, so she “gave him a hand” by disposing of them. Little did she know, her decision deteriorated her relationship with her son, which was already bad before the incident.
The court also initially suggested mediation and the mother has also apologised for her careless mistake, but the son still insisted on suing his mother. He also provided photos of the comics to the police, saying that the mangas were limited editions, in new condition.
It’s no doubt infuriating to see your personal belongings being thrown away without your consent. In this case, do you think the son has gone a little too far, or do you think he did the right thing?
