Sadly, domestic abuse cases have been rampant in the country. Between 2010 to March 2017, there have been reportedly over 23,212 cases of domestic violence against women according to police statistics.

This latest abuse case is certainly no different from what many Malaysians have to go through, but we’re glad that the abuser was apprehended in the end.

According to the New Straits Times, a labourer from Sarawak was fined RM1,500 in default of eight months in jail for assaulting his own girlfriend because she was wearing white clothes, which is the colour he likes the least.

40-year-old Rudy Iswandy Salleh was fined in the Sessions Court in Sarikei, Sarawak yesterday (25th July). He reportedly assaulted his girlfriend on Monday (24th July). Wow, quick action by the authorities!

Rudy pleaded guilty to kicking his girlfriend in her back and punching her forehead at her rented home.

The incident transpired when he discovered her wearing a white uniform, a colour he deemed “tidak senonoh” or indecent. So, he thought beating her up was the solution to that problem?!

Thankfully, justice was served when he was fined the large sum. However, Rudy could not afford to pay the fine, which means he has to serve the eight month jail sentence instead.

We can only hope that more abuse cases will be addressed as quickly as this one in the future. Let’s hope this man also learns the error of his ways in jail!
