A Malaysian guy rapidly gained popularity on the internet for apparently resembling a Disney character. Specifically, Flynn Rider from Tangled.
So who is this cartoonish looking man, anyway?
Well, his name is Wahyu Syed Yunus, and he’s actually just a regular 25-year old guy from Tawau, Sabah. Wahyu was originally criticized by netizens for wearing multiple coloured contacts. Most of them were either saying that he looked like a mat salleh wannabe, or that he looked so jambu (flamboyant).
Oh please. It’s 2017, can we stop with the stereotypes?
While we do admit, it’s quite rare to see a Malaysian man sporting more than 20 pairs of coloured lenses on the daily, its not completely unheard of. Nevertheless, despite the criticisms, Wahyu continued to wear coloured contacts and posting pics on his Instagram.
Well if there’s one thing we know, is that netizens’ opinions are always so fickle – so what was condemned for a time, is suddenly celebrated.
The negative criticisms in the comment section of Wahyu’s instagram trickled to a stop, and now netizens were all saying that he strongly resembled the Tangled hero, Flynn Rider.

However, despite all the comments, Wahyu himself feels like he doesn’t really look like the hero from Tangled.
“I’ve actually never seen Tangled before this. I’ve only recently watched it, and I don’t think I look like him at all. It’s probably my hairstyle and goatee, though.” Wahyu said in Masculin.
Oh, he gives himself too little credit! Just scroll down the comments on his photos and you’ll find some thirsty comments from girls and boys about his fair skin, killer cheek bones and dreamy eyes.
Wahyu further explained that he never really cared about what others thought about him, and that he doesn’t just wear contacts for cosmetic purposes – he is actually very short sighted. Not only that, he actually has a small time contact lenses business.
Well no wonder he wears different coloured lenses almost daily lah!
Wahyu is glad for the attention for the sole reason that now everyone understand and supports him. With the sudden hike in his popularity, Wahyu wants to take the opportunity to further expand and focus on his business.
So for all you ladies (and lads) out there hoping to be his Rapunzel, don’t be too discouraged. He might be giving his all to his little business empire right now but who knows? You might still have a shot with him later on in the future.
As for the haters, don’t you guys have something better to do than criticise what other people want to do with their own lives?
