Malaysia is expected to face a new wave of Covid-19 sooner than we all think, sooner than the two or three months that was previously predicted.
According to a report by Astro Awani, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin shared that the predictions are not to cause panic among the people but to instead look into prevention methods that need to be taken to cover every aspect by all parties.
He added that this was all based on the increasing number of cases, with more than 2,000 cases reported over the past three days, with two new clusters of concern (the education and higher education clusters).
“This is an experience we see in other countries where they also face waves of infections from time to time. The important thing is that we make sure the severity of the waves is mild with mortality rates, admission to intensive care units (ICUs) controlled or at a low level. That means we can live with Covid-19.”
“So, the purpose of me stating this is to give the impression that I mentioned the next two to three months, but I think the wave will come much earlier based on the predictions we are making,” he said.
With that, he reminds the elderly community and individuals with chronic diseases to immediately get a second booster dose to protect themselves from the adverse effects of Covid-19 infections.
It is also essential that we all still adhere to the SOPs despite the relaxations to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe from any potential infections.
