Yes, the well-loved Swedish furniture store is finally making its way up North to Penang!

IKEA Batu Kawan is set to open on 28th March 2019, and loads of Penangites are understandably excited to pay this new outlet a visit.

On top of that, thousands of Malaysians are eager to work for the furniture giant, as over 3,000 applicants reportedly attended IKEA’s three-day recruitment that happened between 27th and 29th July last month. IKEA Batu Kawan reportedly had 200 job vacancies across all store functions including sales, customer relations, food & beverage, logistics, and warehouse, just to name a few.

IKEA Batu Kawan’s store manager, Pathmalingam Armugam, was impressed with the huge number of attendees, saying,

“The remarkable attendance over the weekend has fuelled greater enthusiasm for the store’s opening. We spoke to many candidates who we have identified as good fits. They share our enthusiasm and the positive attitude we look for in every IKEA co-worker.

“I am excited to build a passionate team of co-workers here in Batu Kawan. Together, we will work towards realising the shared IKEA vision of creating a better everyday life for the many people of Northern Malaysia.”

“IKEA Batu Kawan is a response to the demand for more IKEA stores outside Klang Valley. In just a few months, we will be introducing the IKEA home furnishing concept to Malaysians in this region. There are many home furnishing tips, ideas, inspirations, solutions and even food, both Swedish and local taste that await our customers, we are counting down the days until we open our doors!”
