The Malaysian government is considering the implementation of reciting the Rukun Negara pledge in schools and institutions of higher learning (IPT) nationwide.
This was among the matters being discussed by the National Unity Advisory Council (MPPN) meeting yesterday, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister II Datuk Seri Fadilah Yusof, who is also the council’s chairman.
According to the Ministry of National Unity (KPN), besides in schools and IPTs, the proposal also includes reciting the Rukun Negara at official government events in order to promote national unity.
The Rukun Negara, or “National Principles” is our country’s declaration of national philosophy instituted by the royal proclamation on Merdeka Day in 1970.
Besides that, the MPPN meeting also discussed several other matters tantamount to national unity. These include:
- Results of the National Unity Index (IPNas) study, Malaysia MADANI Unity Framework
- The proposals to empower the Neighbourhood Watch Areas (KRT)
- Feedback from MPPN members regarding new efforts and initiatives that have been implemented to empower the national unity agenda
- Reporting of the implementation of programmes that are being and will be implemented by KPN under the Kembara Perpaduan flagship
MPPN was established as part of the government’s efforts in matters involving unity, national reconciliation from various aspects.
The council also seeks to find the best solutions for the government to ensure national unity is preserved so that all Malaysian communities can live in peace and harmony.
