The ‘co-teaching’ method, with 2 teachers in one classroom, is among the new approaches to be implemented in the 2027 school curriculum, which has been introduced by the Ministry of Education (MOE) to champion the balance between academic achievement and the formation of students’ character.
According to a report by Berita Harian, Minister of Education Fadhlina Sidek shared that the ‘co-teaching’ method will be implemented to ensure that the teaching and learning process becomes more interesting and effective because it gives teachers space to be creative and interactive.

Starting in 2027, 2 teachers will be working together to ‘co-teach’ in one class
“In the ‘co-teaching’ method, 2 teachers work together in one class; it is not a teacher assisted by a teaching assistant, but a combination of 2 equal teachers who play a role in making the learning session more effective and interesting for students,”
“We are confident that the ‘co-teaching’ method involving active interaction in the class is seen as the best way to ensure that each student receives the attention they deserve, thus overcoming the problem of learning dropout,” she said, adding that teachers will be required to integrate values and character in their lessons.
Co-teaching can be effective
Fadhlina further explained that the MOE is confident that ‘co-teaching’ can be implemented based on success in other countries.

She also highlighted the implementation of integrated learning, which is a combination of several subjects in one session. For example, English, Science and Music subjects can be taught simultaneously.
“Through this system, our children will gain many advantages, especially a more interactive and interesting learning system. These days, our children are closer to gadgets, so we need a fresher and more interesting approach for them to focus on learning at school,”
“It can be done either by having 2 teachers in one class or by combining 2 classes for the same learning session,” she added.
The Minister is confident that, with education quality improvement and upgrading sessions in 2025 and 2026, teachers will be ready for the new reforms in 2027.
