Most parents would swear on the mantra that kids need to drink plenty of water – a culture which is held strong by all of us even in our adult life.
But what if we were to tell you that drinking more water may not necessarily bring you a lot of good?
Taking to Twitter, Medical doctor, and netizen @HausofHilton says that drinking to much water may cause sawan or seizures!
Here is what he has to say.
Terbaca tweet suruh minum air putih 7 liter. OH MYYYYYY
Ye kami doktor memang suruh minum air. Tapi antara 2-3 liter air sehari.
Kalau minum air terlampau banyak boleh menyebabkan kesan sampingan, worst case sawan.
Makan , minum biar besederhana.

“I stumbled upon a tweet advising people to drink 7 liters of water per day. OH MYYYYYY.”
“Yes we doctors do advise people to drink water, but only two to three liters per day. Drinking water excessively is harmful to the body.”
“Worst case scenario, it may cause seizures.”
In his thread, he adds that too much water in the system can lead to hyponatremia – which causes seizures.
It is true that maintaining our fluid levels are important, but drinking too much IS proven to be bad for health.
According to the British Dietetic Association’s Dr. Wendy Doyle, it is recommended for one person to drink at least 1.5-2 liters of liquid a day.
“Adults lose around 3 liters of fluid a day, but that does not mean we need to drink three liters – solid food will provide at least a liter and 300 – 500ml of water is produced as a by-product of digestion.”
We advise members of the public to consult their doctors to fully understand what their body needs to keep healthy.
