The issue of foreign workers in Malaysia has been a hot topic for the past few weeks. Ever since the cases in Singapore were mostly linked to foreign workers, netizens have urged the government to conduct testings on the foreign workers in Malaysia. Hundreds of undocumented immigrants were arrested in an immigration raid at Jalan Masjid India to conduct mass contact tracing on these workers.

In his press conference today, Defence Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that all foreign workers no matter their sector will have to undergo a screening (swab test) to ensure their health status. The cost of the testing will be borne by their employers. These testings are set to begin in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.

The construction site at Jalan Ampang which had 27 new confirmed cases has been closed down. Likewise, if any of the foreign workers were found to be Covid-19 positive, their workplace would also be shut down immediately.
