Sometimes, no matter how careful you are, accidents can occur.

A recent case in point is a freak accident in Teluk Kumbar, Penang, where a pillion motorcycle rider and his passenger were hurt after a coconut had fallen from a tree and landed directly on their head while riding along a busy road.

The Penang Kini Facebook page took to its profile to share a video of the incident.

They wrote, “Misfortune is unexpected. The fruit fell (from the tree) and hit the motorcyclist in Teluk Kumbar. The victims’ condition cannot be confirmed. We hope they are not seriously injured.”

In the video, the duo can ride on a motorbike when an object falls from the sky. Upon closer inspection of the video, the thing was a coconut falling from its tree next to a busy road.

The impact of the coconut on the pillion rider’s head was so significant that it caused their helmet to come off entirely and cause them to lose control and fall off the motorcycle.

Call for such trees to be removed from road sides

Upon watching the video, netizens are calling for the coconut trees to be cut down to ensure the safety of road users.

Hopefully, the coconut tree will get cut down. (I’m) worried it might hit someone else,” commented one user.

Another said, “Just cut down these roadside trees. (They’re) dangerous.”

Allah.. hopefully, the JKR or the state government takes this matter seriously. Please speak to the landlord and ask them to cut down the coconut trees by the roadside around this area. It is very dangerous for road users,” said another netizen.
