Recently, Member of Parliament (MP) Wan Ahmad Fayhsal made a controversial statement after he urged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to amend the Federal Constitution to only allow Muslim Malays to be the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

Now, Anwar himself has responded to the divisive statement, saying that there is no need for the Federal Constitution to be amended for such a purpose.

As reported by BERNAMA, Anwar said that the post of Prime Minister in our country will continue to be held by the Malays. He asserted,

“Either from the government or the opposition bloc, the candidates will be Malay.”

As for Wan Fayhsal’s statement, he said that so far, there’s no need for serious discussion about amending the Federal Constitution.

Anwar further stressed that all should move forward from the issue, asserting, “So, let’s move forward, safeguard the rights of the people, and protect the interests of all citizens, all ethnicities, and all regions.”

He also called for the opposition bloc not to play with issues that could create racial disharmony and disputes, saying that the matter is not an issue and never has been one, so there’s no need to complicate things.

Moreover, the Prime Minister also told the opposition to find other means to help boost the economy and alleviate the people’s burden and not to continue causing trouble.
