We’ve all heard about the elderly couple who consumed puffer fish and was sent to the hospital back in late March.
At that time, the 83-year-old woman had passed away while her 84-year-old husband was still in the ICU. However, on the morning of 8 April, the elderly man took his last breath.
According to Sinar Harian, the couple’s daughter, Ng Ai Lee, 51, thought that it was a dream when she received a call from the hospital saying that her father had passed on.
It is said that her father was still very active and chatted with her on 7 April. At that time, he also asked about the whereabouts of his wife, to which his daughter lied and said that she was resting at home so as to not make him worry.
Her parents had gotten the puffer fish from a Facebook seller and after receiving it, they cooked it for their next meal.
Ng Ai Lee hopes that the Ministry of Health and the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority will enforce existing acts and drag those who are guilty to court.
“Actions should be taken to make sure that similar incidents will not happen to other people and their families again,” she said.
Other than that, the family of the deceased are still waiting for answers from the Kluang Health Department on their investigations.
We hope that the deceased will rest in peace. Thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the deceased.
