While many around the world has been cursing Covid-19 for putting a ‘pause’ button on their education, one particular man in Hyderabad, India is thankful for the pandemic. Why? Well, thanks to Covid-19, he finally passed his Class 10 examination (equivalent to GCSE) after failing it for the past 33 years as the local government decided to exempt everyone taking the exam and automatically promote them to the next class.
As reported by NDTV, the man, 51-year-old Mohammad Nooruddin has been trying to clear Class 10th examination for the past 33 years but he always failed to pass one particular paper due to his weakness in English. Furthermore, throughout the 33 years, there was no one there to give him tuition.
Nooruddin said,
“I was weak in English as there was no one to help me or give me tuition. But I studied with the support of my brother and sister. I consistently failed in exams for 33 years, but I applied for exams every year for a job of a security guard and I was asked to give class 10 results.”
This year however, the Telangana government which governs Hyderabad decided to promote all Class 10 students into the next class without the need of conducting examinations due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Alas, Nooruddin are able to pass the examination without actually taking the exam.
Nooruddin has four children and been working as a security guard since 1989 and managed to secure that particular job without a Class 10 examination. His current monthly salary is RM384 and has vowed to continue furthering his studies. Let’s hope that the future would bring something better for him!
