As prices for living necessities get higher, people have been working extra hard at their workplace in hopes that there will be some kind of reward. Luckily for this Malaysian, she was able to find something that could help her earn a living.
According to an IG page called Malaysianpaygap, a 24-year-old Malaysian has shared her salary and occupation. In her post, she mentioned that she is a freelance video editor with 1 year experience, and she earns up to RM20,000 a month!
“I come from a low-income family and wasn’t able to further pursue my studies. I worked as a cabin crew for both the national and budget airlines and found that it wasn’t suitable for me.
During MCO in 2021, I started learning video editing as I was stuck at home. After 1 year, I was already making more money that I ever thought I would, and it has definitely changed my mind set about money”, she added.
She also mentioned that when she first started out, she would network with business owners and marketing agencies on Facebook groups and once she was able to build a connection for herself, she realised that she doesn’t have to look for clients anymore as they would contact her instead.
“Most of my clients are from overseas and being a freelance video editor, there are definitely pros and cons”, she said.
She then listed her pros which are:
- Working from home
- Get paid in USD
- You are your own boss
- Great if you’re an introvert
- The more you work, the more money you get
Cons:
- No EPF, SOCSO, health insurance
- Following the US working time (9:30pm-5:30am)
- No paid leave
She then ended the post saying that to her, the good outweighs the bad and you can now build your own EPF/savings account.
“There are plenty of opportunities out there, you just need to know where to look”, she said.
You’re doing such a great job by getting a job that can help lessen the burden of your family. Keep up the good work, fellow Malaysian!
