Just last Friday (6th April), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak finally announced the dissolution of parliament, bringing the upcoming 14th general elections (GE14) even closer than before. Soon after the announcement, the ruling coalition, Barisan Nasional (BN), released their manifesto over the weekend.
According to Free Malaysia Today, Selangor BN also launched a 10-point manifesto over the weekend. This manifesto detailed 100 proposed initiatives they have planned for Selangor if they win the upcoming GE14.
The chairman of Selangor BN, Tan Sri Noh Omar, stated that this manifesto, carrying the theme, “Better Selangor. Yakinlah, BN Lebih Baik!“, aims to fulfill the five key goals BN has for the state. These main goals are;
- Political Stability and a High Performance State Administration
- Security, Peace and Prosperity of the People
- User-Friendly Infrastructure and Facilities
- Progressive, Sustainable, Innovative and Competitive Economy at the global level
- Integration of the People as the Fundamental Pillar in the Sustainability of the Socio-Economic Development
Tan Sri Noh added that BN intends to “repair” Selangor, which faced water supply disruptions, problems with waste management, and dengue outbreaks while under the PKR-led state government. He added,
“We promise the people of Selangor, be confident that BN is better than the current state government. This Selangor BN manifesto is designed to make Selangor excellent and glorious again as we (BN) had done before.”
“Perhaps we made some mistakes. There were weaknesses but we have learned from these. Selangor will be much better and be renowned in the country if BN takes over Selangor in GE14.”
In their manifesto, Selangor BN highlighted 10 key points encompassing 100 initiatives for people in the state. Here are the 10 main things BN aims to achieve if they are able to recapture Selangor;
- High-performance public service
- Thriving, stable, and innovative economy
- Peaceful and affordable housing
- Educational excellence and human capital
- User-friendly infrastructure and basic amenities
- Well-being of youth, women, and a plural society
- Affordable public transport
- Public safety and order
- Quality health and environmental sustainability
- Well-being and quality of life of the urban community
Selangor BN has also proposed rebates, like complimentary 20 cubic metres of water, and discounts for those using below 40 cubic metres of water. They have also proposed relief assistance for funerals, 50 per cent off for renting state government halls for weddings, and to make the Shah Alam Stadium as the official venue of Selangor’s football team.
Meanwhile, opposition coalition Pakatan Harapan (PH), who launched their manifesto a month ago in March, proposed a number of things they would implement if they succeed in taking over as the federal government. Among their promises include abolishing the Goods and Services Tax (GST), introducing a targeted petrol subsidy, introducing an employee’s provident fund (EPF) scheme for housewives, and implementing an equal minimum wage across sectors.
