Barisan Nasional (BN) is planning to create three Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) positions should the coalition win the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15). The 3 DPMs will be from the three territories in our country, namely Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.

BN chairman, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that the suggestion will be inserted into BN Sabah’s election manifesto for GE15 and hoped that a similar approach would be made by BN in Peninsular Malaysia as well as Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in Sarawak. However, do note that GPS is not a part of BN since 2018 though the ruling coalition in Sarawak has been friendly to the BN federal government.

Zahid

As reported by Harian Metro, Zahid Hamidi hopes that caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob would accept the suggestion as the position of DPM is not mentioned in the Federal Constitution. Zahid Hamidi, who is also UMNO President further asserted,

“I’m sure that the Prime Minister would accept this suggestion as the position of DPM is not prescribed in the Consitution. There are only four Senior Ministers. So, it is not impossible for 3 DPM positions if BN wins dominantly. The positions will be held by any leaders from Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia.”

So, what do you guys think of this suggestion by Zahid Hamidi? Would you like to see 3 DPM positions to be created in the federal government? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
