Being a mother is probably one of the most difficult and underappreciated jobs in the world but we would be nothing without our beloved mothers.

This new mother in Japan shared a heartwarming story of how her husband appreciated her efforts in raising their bouncing baby boy for the past six months on Twitter which touched netizens’ hearts.

First time mother Daichichi had given birth to their little bundle of joy in October last year and decided to breastfeed her son instead of using milk formula. Her son turned six months recently and her husband felt that this warranted a celebration of sorts to mark this milestone.

Although it isn’t customary for the Japanese to celebrate a baby’s half birthday, Daichichi’s husband had other plans in mind. You might be thinking that all the attention would be focused on the baby but this time, Daichichi’s husband showed his love and attention to his wife instead.

He gave her an envelope with a short but sweet note which said, “It’s not much, but this is an appreciation for the past six months. Use it however you’d like, and thank you for all your hard work.”

Mystified, Daichichi opened the envelope to find 100,000 yen (RM3,594) inside which is meant to compensate her for the six months of nourishing breast milk she provided to their son. Now, before you start thinking that this is a really mercenary move, it’s actually just a gesture of love and appreciation from her thoughtful husband.

Daichichi said that a few months ago, she had jokingly mentioned to her husband that for the first year, babies required about 140,000 yen (RM5,032) of formula. She playfully asked her husband whether she could collect that amount for her breastfeeding “service.”

Her husband must have thought it over and came to the conclusion that his beloved wife did deserve a little gift just for being an awesome mother and wife to boot. Netizens praised her husband for his sweet gesture and she agreed that she is blessed. However, she lamented the fact that she did not prepare something special in return for her husband’s contributions to the family as well. We’re sure she’ll be able to surprise her husband with something soon!

Now, go back and appreciate your parents for all their love and hard work in raising you!
