UMNO veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah said there is absolutely no need for Dr. Akmal Saleh to apologise for his remark against Teresa Kok.

Tengku Razaleigh, also known as Ku Li, said that Akmal’s statement was not meant to wage war against anyone because the UMNO Youth Chief was merely expressing his take on the Halal certification issue.

“Why should he apologise? He was expressing his sincere take and feelings and he wasn’t harboring any intention to fight other races. It wasn’t about the Halal certification but it was about his dissatisfaction.”

Ku Li was responding to DAP Johor’s Dr. Boo Cheng Hau who recently stated that Akmal should apologise to all Malaysians to prove that he is a mature and professional leader, reported Malaysian Gazette.

“Regardless of Akmal or anyone, whatever that is expressed does not mean we’re waging a fight, or if we’re anti anyone. It’s merely expressing dissatisfaction.”

Ku Li also added that despite being a Malay nationalist party, Umno is not sidelining the support of other ethnic voters.

“I believe Umno’s struggle hasn’t changed, but that doesn’t mean we don’t want the support of Chinese voters. We are all Malaysians.”

Previously, Teresa Kok made a controversial remark about Halal certification in Malaysian restaurants before Akmal slammed her by calling her an “Old Nyonya” and asked the Seputeh MP to not interfere in the matter.

Do you think Akmal should apologise for his remark? What do you think of Ku Li’s take on this matter?
