Millennials and Gen Z are separated in age by only a few years but the cultural difference is definitely immense. While milennials were the Internet’s baby with their Friendster, MySpace and eventually Facebook, Gen Z revolutionized Instagram, Snapchat and become trailblazers for TikTok. Despite the tireless argument, let’s just agree that both these generations have their highs and lows.
An Internet user, in an obvious attempt to not only shame girls but specifically Gen Z girls, posted a confession in UTAR Confessions page about the four signature poses 00s girls take for their Instagram. These poses include:
1. The “Blurred Photo”
“The blur is like using a grainy old camera. It’s either this or using a messy filter.”
2. The “Face Covered With Emoji”
“These girls would like to use emojis to cover their faces, legs and breasts.”
3. The “Cover Your Face With The Phone”
“This might’ve been okay in the olden days with huge phones but nowadays with smaller phones, it’s almost impossible to cover your whole face!”
4. The “I only take pictures of my behind”
“I recently came across a picture of an underage girl, lying on her bed and the picture of their behind, purposely.”
5. The “I Like To Take Pictures Showing My Navel, Shoulders and Breast”
“This is the same case as before where underage girls take pictures wearing “revealing clothing”. While some of them are in good shape, they should be older until they pose like this.”
Ok, the confessor CLEARLY has a problem with how these girls “pose” but has no problem with sexualizing underage girls. While it is true, you should always be vigilant on the Internet, cases like the V2K Telegram group has shown us that no matter how girls dress up, covered-up or revealing, perverted people will still find any opportunity to harass these girls.
This confession may have been made in humour, it’s comments like these that lead to cyberbullying and further damaging the self-esteem of teenage girls. Everyday before you use the Internet, remind yourself that if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all!
