Remember how we told you that you can enjoy up to 50% discounts on all accommodations, courtesy of the Thai government? We bet a number of you have already been mulling over which part of the nation you want to travel to, whether it be the beautiful beaches along Ko Samui, or the hustle and bustle of the Thai capital itself.

Well you won’t have long to wait, because it has been declared that the current state of lockdown in Thailand will be completely lifted by 1st July 2020. Yes, this isn’t a Conditional Movement Control Order like Malaysia, but rather a complete lifting of lockdown in Thailand.

But of course, that also means that the ‘new norms’ that are being put in place will still be enforced, such as social distancing, social tracing, and wearing face masks. It is worth noting that at this point in time, the Thai government has yet to implement any laws to ensure these ‘new norms’ are ingrained, as CTN News reports.

Thailand National Security Council secretary-general Gen Somsak Rungsita said yesterday (28th May 2020) that the lifting of lockdown restrictions means a complete reopening of Thailand, and that officials will begin preparations for this in June.

“Authorities will have serious discussions because after the emergency decree ends, other laws will be used instead,”

“People’s cooperation is important. This concerns the use of face masks, social distancing, hand wash and limited activities. As long as the disease is spreading worldwide, we will have to fight against it for a while.” he said, according to Bangkok Post.

Thailand’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) will be finalising the finer details on what businesses can and cannot reopen, and on what conditions they may operate.

This comes after the Thai Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council has announced plans to issue discount vouchers of up to 50% to visiting tourists upon the reopening of international borders.

What do you guys think of this development?
