There will always be people who tell us to be confident and be proud of who we are but unfortunately, not everyone has the luxury to possess such confidence, especially around people who lead a better lifestyle.
A TikTok user from China, however, said that it’s not that tough to be confident and be yourself in Malaysia. To her, it’s because Malaysians don’t judge by how one dresses and looks.
“Your beauty is not defined by how much you weigh or how fair-skinned you are,” she explained.
Anxious about your look? We don’t do that here
The Tiktok user, Bao Zi Jie, who has been in Malaysia for quite some time acknowledged that Malaysia is a multicultural country, so it’s common to see different skin colours in the country, which to her, is beauty because no one judges others based on skin colours.
“Regardless of how you dress up, no one will point their fingers. If you can wear shorts and slippers everyday, then go for it.”
Bao Zi Jie added that in Malaysia, she has never seen hiring advertisements with requirements like certain heights and how you look. She then said that many people here may not have an ideal body size due to their dietary plan but that does not bother them at all. In Malaysia, there is no such thing as being anxious about your looks.
To her, it’s because of the confidence that many Malaysians have.
“Of course, they’re still maintaining their weight by exercising regularly. But everyone respects each other and no one tells others how to live their lives.”
She added that life in Malaysia has taught her that beauty cannot be defined because everyone should be allowed to live how they want. At the end of the clip that she shared on Douyin, Bao Zi Jie reminded her followers to accept themselves for who they are.
“Don’t care about what others have to say. Be yourself, love yourself. Your own happiness is what matters.”
While not everyone may be as generous as she described, there’s one thing that we can learn from her assuring clip – What others say doesn’t matter but the key is how you view and treasure yourself.
Fellow Malaysians, do you agree with her take on this?
