Recently, Thailand officially legalised smoking and planting cannabis at home and removed it from their list of illicit drugs. Now, their citizens who have taken advantage of this are enjoying and profiting off of their decisions.

Based on a report by The Thaiger, 53-year-old Khamphai is thriving from trading cannabis trees as she can be seen pushing a trolley full of the plants at the Suwaphan Market to be sold daily.

She revealed her happiness to be turning in huge profits, as she has sold 100 to 200 cannabis plants at 150-180 baht (RM19-RM22) each, depending on the size.

“I obtained supplies of cannabis plants from the Buriram province in Northeastern Thailand before bringing them to Ang Thong for sale. I was quite surprised by the response from people who are buying more and more cannabis trees to be planted in their homes,” she shared.

Raking in an average of 1,000 baht (RM125) a day, Khamphai added that the profits of this business have allowed her to enjoy a more comfortable life compared to what she had endured during the Covid-19 pandemic.

While the amount may not seem like a lot to most, it is essential to note that the minimum daily wage in Thailand is 650 baht (RM81).
