Highway debris can cause severe road accidents, but thanks to one brave Malaysian, a major hazard was safely removed from a busy road!

A viral TikTok video uploaded by @atkhnai captured the heart-pumping moment her husband dashed onto a highway to pull a heavy, abandoned lorry tyre off the rightmost lane to prevent incoming vehicles from crashing into it.

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, the creator shared the full story behind the brave act, which took place on Saturday (September 5) while they were driving to Penang.

It started with a warning call from family

Before encountering the debris, the family received a heads-up phone call from the creator’s sister-in-law, who was travelling on the same route. She warned them to drive carefully due to a stray lorry tyre resting in the fast lane.

“My husband playfully replied, ‘Okay, I’ll go move it later,’ just joking around,” the creator recalled. “But when we reached the spot, all the vehicles had to slam on their brakes and slow down significantly to avoid it.”

Seeing how dangerous the situation was, her husband, Muhammad Akmal Afifi Bin Nasarudin, decided to actually step in and clear the lane.

Cooperation from other drivers saved the day

Worried about incoming high-speed traffic, the wife advised Akmal to safely pull over further up the road and turn on their hazard lights before attempting to walk back.

“As a wife, I was definitely worried because cars drive really fast on the highway. But thankfully, everything went smoothly,” she shared.

“If you look at the video, all the drivers and lorry drivers were so cooperative. They slowed down to give my husband enough time to drag the heavy tyre away.”

The heavy rubber tread was far tougher to move than it looked on camera, but Akmal managed to haul it safely out of harm’s way.

Honks of gratitude from passing vehicles

The wholesome moment didn’t end there. As soon as the lane was cleared, passing cars and lorries began honking their horns in solidarity and gratitude for his selfless act.

“I felt so proud to be Malaysian seeing everyone cooperate like that,” she expressed.

“So many people have sent sweet prayers for our family since the video went viral, and we want to thank everyone for their kind words.”

Kudos to Akmal Afifi for his quick thinking and selfless act!
