Just like siblings, Malaysia and Singapore sometimes have their disagreements. But most of the time, both countries will keep a lookout for each other, especially when it comes to handling fears.
In a recent survey performed by YouGov, Singaporeans’ fears are listed down clearly so that as their friendly neighbour, maybe we can help them in dealing with some. The result was released in conjunction with Halloween.
Drowning (53%) is at the top of the list of what Singaporeans are scared of. Being a country surrounded by water, this is a no-brainer. This is followed by fire (48%), reptiles (47%) and cockroaches (42%). Surprisingly, death (40%) only appeared at number seven in the list!
According to YouGov, young Singaporeans (aged 18 to 28) fear spiders more than old Singaporeans (aged 55 and above) do while the older ones fear germs more than the younger ones.
In the list, the lower three fears are going to the dentist, loneliness and darkness which all share the same percentage of 21%. Well, if you are in a well-developed country like Singapore, a visit to the dentist might already be a norm and it’s hard to be lonely in an island country with a population of almost six million.
