A recently published global study about male pattern baldness yielded some interesting results about the prevalent of bald men in Malaysia.
According to the study by Medihair, the leading online platform for medically proven hair loss treatments, 29.24% of Malaysian men are bald, the 11th highest in Asia!
The baldest countries in the world
In the study aimed to find out the baldest countries in the world, Medihair found that Western countries have some of the highest percentages of bald men.
Furthermore, some other countries in regions such as Asia and South America also show high rates of baldness.
However, the study pointed out that when compared to Europe and North America, Asian countries generally had lower rates of baldness.
The top 5 countries globally with the highest percentage of male hair loss are all located in the Western region, which are:
- Spain – 44.50%
- Italy – 44.37%
- France – 44.25%
- United States – 42.68%
- Germany – 41.51%
Malaysia has the 2nd highest percentage of bald men in Southeast Asia
As for Asia, the country with the highest percentage of bald men is Saudi Arabia with 39.75%, followed by the United Arab Emirates (38.10%), Japan (35.69%), Iran (35.03%) and India (34.06%).
As for Malaysia, the study found that 29.24% of our male population has male pattern baldness, the 11th highest in Asia and 44th in the world.
Comparing the statistics with our Southeast Asian neighbours, Malaysia has the 2nd highest percentage of bald men in the region behind Thailand (30.94%).
The Philippines is 3rd with 28% and Indonesia 5th with 26.96%.
