The launch of any highly-anticipated product will always gather long queues outside the store on the day it is released for sale, but unfortunately in 2020, that cannot happen anymore due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

As such, Sony has announced that the launch of one of their newest additions, the PlayStation 5 console on 12 November (or 19 November in other regions), will take place online entirely!

“In the interest of keeping our gamers, retailers, and staff safe amidst Covid-19, today we are confirming that all day-of launch sales will be conducted through the online stores of our retail partners,” Sony said.

No units will be available in-store for purchase on launch day, which means that it is not necessary to camp or line up outside stores in hopes of getting your hands on the new PS5 console.

“Be safe, stay home, and place your order online.”

Sony goes on to explain that those who have pre-ordered for pick-up at their local retailed can still do so at their designated appointment time, provided they follow the retailer’s safety protocols.

“A special thank you to our entire community for your continued support this year. Here’s to the next generation of gaming!” Sony ends the statement.

Kudos to Sony for keeping their customers and staff safe during the Covid-19 outbreak. Although it feels good to physically carry a new toy home after purchasing it, waiting for it to be sent to your home isn’t so bad either.
