Scammers these days are not only notorious but they also deserve the “Best Actor” awards for their commitments in their roles.

Recently, in her Twitter account, a netizen known as Dina shared her personal experience of nearly being scammed on Telegram. The scammer had the audacity to pretend to be Dina’s father and asked her to transfer RM500 to him, which he would return the next day.

However, Dina could immediately tell that it was not his father thanks to the pronoun used – sayaas her father has never addressed himself like that.

“I can’t do that now, Dad. The mobile banking app is on another phone. I’ll be back on Tuesday evening”, Dina rejected, only for the scammer to insist again by saying it’s an urgent matter.

In another tweet, she revealed that the scammer even lied by saying he has an ongoing family problem.

“I don’t even know what’s the family problem. My dad’s enjoying his time playing with the cats at home.”

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Dina said that as she’s not living with her parents at the moment, she immediately contacted her mom via WhatsApp and asked about her dad. She initially thought his phone was stolen and showed the conversation to her mom, which her mom confirmed that it wasn’t her dad.

His brother immediately terminated the access and the login sessions of his father’s Telegram account. The scammer had apparently logged into their father’s account from Makassar, Indonesia.

“I’m my daddy’s girl, so I definitely know how my dad speaks to me. The hacker thought he could outsmart me but he’s not as smart as he think he is,” Dina told WORLD OF BUZZ.

In the meantime, to avoid history from repeating itself and as a precaution to others, Dina has shared tips on how to terminate the login sessions that do not belong to us. This will keep unknown parties from using our identities on instant messaging apps.

Same script, different day

Surprisingly, her tweet has also gained the attention of some netizens who shared their similar experiences of nearly being conned.

“Same script. Please be creative.”

These scammers are definitely dedicated to what they’re doing in order to fork the money out of people’s pockets. Always be alert with suspicious text messages so that you don’t fall into their traps!
