It seems that every day you will hear more and more opposition leaders leaving their political parties and then in a sudden U-turn, they want to enter one of the political parties in the ruling coalition, Pakatan Harapan. They should learn how to be a good opposition too!

The most recent one was when a mass exodus of Umno members left the Sabah division on Wednesday (Dec 12). News of these leaders jumping from one party to another has gotten the rakyat and other Pakatan Harapan leaders uneasy. Now, one of the Selangor DAP leaders have spoken up and asked Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad not to be a “rubbish collector”.

According to FMT, Ronni Lie, one of the Selangor DAP committee members reminded Dr Mahathir that he had called “the Umno guys ‘useless’ and ‘rubbish’” during a meeting before GE14. In a post on his Patreon page, he said that Dr Mahathir assured that he would not accept “frogs” from Umno but had already broken his promise twice by accepting Mustapa Mohamed and Bagan Serai MP Noor Azmi Ghazali into Bersatu.

“Well, sir, if they are such useless rubbish, I certainly hope you won’t be a rubbish collector and take them into Bersatu. I respectfully remind Dr M that if he takes in these Sabah frogs who have just left UMNO, it will be seen as a betrayal against the voters who elected to kick out UMNO from the government. Don’t tell me now you want them to come back into the government through a Bersatu backdoor?” he wrote.

The four MPs and nine state assemblymen who left Umno have declared that they are independents but there has been speculation that they want to join Bersatu, which does not have a division in Sabah. As many as 36 elected representatives, senators and division heads in Sabah decided to leave Umno yesterday (Dec 12), leaving the party’s state chapter in a crippled state.

In addition, there has been news of several Sabah Umno leaders having a meeting with Dr Mahathir and the former Puteri Umno chief Mas Ermieyati Samsudin has just applied to join Bersatu as well. However, there is no confirmation whether these MPs would be accepted into Bersatu.

Dr Mahathir has remained tight-lipped and only said, “We have to see how they behave. If they are supportive and didn’t do anything wrong in the past, we will accept them.”

Liu, who is the Sungai Pelek assemblyman, added that while Bersatu had lesser MPs compared to DAP and PKR, he was sure that Bersatu would be able to garner more seats overtime. “Be patient. Why try to grow big fast like this? This is not the right way. Do you know at one time PKR had only one MP (Wan Azizah)? Do you know at one time DAP was reduced to only nine MPs? We persevered and we grew organically. That is the way to do it. If you allow a reverse takeover of Bersatu by UMNO it will ruin whatever good things you have done for Pakatan Harapan. Don’t let this happen,” he concluded.
