“Power lah!” – The Malaysian Accent Named 6th Sexiest Accent in Asia, 39th in The World

We Malaysians tend to have a soft spot for foreigners visiting our country and making content about our food, culture and sights. More so, if these world travellers have a unique accent, which some Malaysians may find to be attractive.

What about the other way around though? Do foreigners find the Malaysian accent attractive? Well, according to a study by UK-based travel deals aggregator Enjoy Travel, our accent is one of the sexiest in Asia and among the top 50 in the world!

 

The Malaysian accent is the 6th sexiest in Asia

In the study, which is based on the votes of the website’s users, the Malaysian accent ranked as the 6th sexiest in Asia and 39th overall in the world.

Enjoy Travel further elaborated that Malaysia is a tropical paradise known for its beaches, rainforests and jungle, whilst influenced by Malay, Chinese, Indian and European cultures.

It added that the modern Malay language is classified as “Austronesian” and that there are 156 indigenous languages split into 55 West Malaysian and 101 East Malaysian.

However, the study noted that Malaysian accents are becoming increasingly “Americanised”.

In Asia, we barely missed out on the top 5 rankings, with these Asian accents placing in the top 5:

  4. Indian

As for the sexiest accents in the world, here are the top 10 rankings according to Enjoy Travel:
