In a breaking news that shocked the country this morning (May 17), the Inspector General of Police has identified the suspect who was shot to death this morning following the bloody gunfight in the Ulu Tiram Police station.
IGP Tan Sri Razarudin Hussain told the media that the suspect who killed 2 police officers and injured another 1 is believed to have links to the Jemaah Islamiyyah (JI). In case you’re not aware, JI is an Islamist militant group based in Indonesia, with members across Southeast Asia, who have conducted several high-profile bombings, most notably the Bali bombings in 2002 which killed over 200 civilians.
In a latest update by the IGP, he revealed that 5 family members of the deceased suspect have been detained.
“Suspect is believed to have made preparations before the attack at the police station. He has no criminal records,” IGP added.
At the time being, the Ulu Tiram Police Station is under heavy police presence, with 50 officers patrolling the perimeter.
Despite the absence of criminal records, IGP said that AT LEAST 20 members of the JI have been identified in Johor alone.
The injured police officer is reported to be in stable condition. You can read a detailed profile of JI terrorist attacks here.
We hope this is not a sign of imminent danger, and hopefully, all authority forces in Malaysia are ready to take down the threats. Stay tuned for more updates!
