With huge acts like Coldplay and Taylor Swift booking multiple shows in Singapore, many Malaysians are wondering, why not us too?
There may be a reason behind why these musicians and concert organisers opting for Singapore instead of Malaysia.
NGO Arts, Live Festivals and Events Association (ALIFE) recently took to their social media to share their belief that political groups who have protest these concerts in Malaysia have soured the situation for artists and organisers, in a now deleted post.
They wrote, “Many concert goers have asked why Singapore is able to have 6 (Coldplay) shows while Malaysia only has 1 show. Although there are many reasons, one key issue are the protests from political groups which leaves a sour note with the artist, organiser and especially international concert goers.”
“The 6 concerts in Singapore shows what could’ve been for Malaysia, which would’ve brought millions in tourist income and benefit hotels, transportation, food and beverage, retail and more.”
Considering what we’ve lost from this situation, they have since called for everyone to do something about it.
“These protests have proven to have a direct impact to our international business environment and reputation. We urge the government, media and people to protect our businesses and not allow particular groups to dictate what the majority of Malaysians want for our country.”
“Congratulations on a 6 day sellout for Coldplay in Singapore – it is a true testament and example when various government and private bodies work cohesively for the benefit of economies, job creation and tourism. We hope that Malaysia will be able to emulate these good practices one day,” they added.
Why do you think Taylor Swift has opted for Singapore and not Malaysia, and that Coldplay decided to play 6 shows in Singapore and only 1 in Malaysia?
